Castelo Studio nació con el propósito de convertirse en un espacio de intercambio y de diálogo entre personas interesadas en procesos artísticos, diseño y sostenibilidad. Desde la perspectiva de un espacio rural, un estudio de arte que opera desde el bosque, y que atrae a creativos y creativas de distintas culturas y disciplinas. Es por esto que este año 2020 se ha convocado la primera Beca para Artistas Internacionales en Castelo Studio con el soporte curatorial de SomoS Art House Berlin.
Para nosotros ha sido inspirador crear esta beca. Las circunstancias actuales, relacionadas con las restricciones de la crisis de Covid_19, no han sido las idóneas para sacar adelante la convocatoria, sin embargo, aún habiendo pensado en cancelar la convocatoria este año, hemos decidido que nuestro compromiso con el arte y los artistas debe mantenerse, ya que el apoyo a los artistas en estos tiempos complejos es más urgente que nunca. Es por esto que, a pesar de las circunstancias, hemos decidido invitar a dos artistas a desarrollar su proyecto dentro del marco de la Beca para Artistas Internacionales 2020 en Castelo Studio.
Tras habernos reunido Paulus Fugers (director SomoS Art House Berlin) e Iria do Castelo (directora Castelo Studio) y tras revisar las propuestas recibidas, hemos decidido que los dos artistas seleccionados sean Riaq Miuq (Barcelona) y Lana Prins (Rotterdam).
Castelo Studio was created with the purpose of becoming a space for exchange and dialogue between people interested in artistic processes, design and sustainability. From the perspective of a rural space, an art studio that operates from the forest, we attract and connect creatives from different cultures and disciplines. That´s why it was launched the first Scholarship for International Artists at Castelo Studio this year 2020 with the curatorial support of SomoS Art House Berlin.
It was so inspiring for us to create this open call. The current circumstances, related to the restrictions of the Covid_19 crisis, have not been ideal to carry out the call. However, even though we have thought about canceling the call this year, we finally decided that our commitment to art and artists should prevail, as the support of artists in these difficult times is more urgent than ever. This is why, despite the circumstances, we invite two artists to develop their project within the framework of the 2020 Residency Scholarship for International Artists at Castelo Studio.
After reviewing the proposals received and having a meeting, Paulus Fugers (director SomoS Art House Berlin) and Iria do Castelo (director Castelo Studio) we decided that the two selected artist are Riaq Miuq (Barcelona) and Lana Prins (Rotterdam).
Joaquim Orriols aka Riaq Miuq es un artista visual de Barcelona que construye su discurso en base a una aproximación al arte primitivo desde una perspectiva contemporánea. Su trabajo nos muestra su fascinación por el mundo natural y el choque con una realidad industrial. Centra su trabajo en la reconexión con la naturaleza, folklore, ecología, ruralidad y postindustrialidad.
Utiliza materiales disponibles en el entorno como pigmentos minerales y fibras vegetales que él mismo recolecta. Trabaja sobre diferentes soportes y sus proyectos abarcan técnicas murales, textiles, instalativas y performativas. Actualmente forma parte del colectivo Neorupestre, grupo que centra su trabajo en la investigación y experimentación con materiales recolectados de la naturaleza. Riaq Miuq ha producido durante su residencia en Castelo Studio una pieza que complementa su proyecto Omgra en el que desarrolla una mitología personal relacionada con la tierra y sus ciclos.
Riaq Miuq is a visual artist from Barcelona that creates his discourse based on an approach to primitive art from a spiritual perspective, that crashes with an industrial reality. His work is inspired by a reconnection with nature, folk and cultural roots research, ecology, rurality and post-industrial era.
He uses materials provided by nature as mineral pigments and natural fibers that he personally collects. He uses different mediums and his projects range from mural painting, textile art, installation and performance. He´s part of Neorupestre collective, art group that focuses his work in research and experimentation with materials collected from nature. Riaq Miuq has produced during his residency at Castelo Studio a piece that completes his ongoing project Omgra in which he develops a personal mythology related to the earth and its cycles.
