In Residence: Moura & Xisco Feijóo

El pasado enero de 2023 se reunían la banda de rock pyscodélico MØURA y el músico de folk gallego Xisco Feijóo en Castelo Studio para grabar una colaboración especial que sería emitida en el programa “Ondas Novas” de TVG Televisión de Galicia.

La banda MØURA formada por Diego Veiga (guitarras, harmónica y voz), Belén Tajes (voz y panderetas) Hugo Santeiro (guitarras), Fernando Vilaboy (hammond y sintetizadores), Pedro Alberte (bajo) y Luis Casanova (batería) posee una sólida trayectoria desde su formación en 2015 en la que confluyen rock progresivo, folk y psicodelia, resultando un directo contundente e hipnótico que no ha dejado de girar en los principales festivales alternativos del panorama nacional, con algunas escapadas a otros festivales europeos.

Xisco Feijóo es una de las figuras más relevantes del panorama folk contemporáneo en Galicia. Cantante, premiado bailador, coreógrafo, presentador de televisión, maestro de la ETRAD y coordinador de la sección de canto de la OFG SonDeSeu. Después de haber hecho un incesante trabajo de recuperación etnográfica durante más de treinta años y habiendo colaborado en más de veinte discos y espectáculos de artistas de proyección internacional como Mercedes Peón, Xosé Manuel Budiño, Carlos Nuñez, Kepa Junquera, Berrogüetto y Rodrígo Romaní, entre otros, ha lanzado su carrera en solitario con la presentación del disco titulado “Peixe”.

Last January 2023, the psychedelic rock band MØURA and the Galician folk musician Xisco Feijóo met at Castelo Studio to record a special collaboration recently broadcasted on the TV program “Ondas Novas” by Galician Television.

The band MØURA is formed by Diego Veiga (guitars, harmonica, and vocals), Belén Tajes (vocals and tambourines), Hugo Santeiro (guitars), Fernando Vilaboy (Hammond and synthesizers), Pedro Alberte (bass) and Luis Casanova (drums). They have had a solid trajectory since its formation back in 2015. Their sound is a result of a powerful mix of progressive rock, folk, and psychedelia coming together, resulting in a forceful and hypnotic live show that has not stopped touring at the main alternative festivals on the national scene in Spain, with some escapes to other European festivals.

Xisco Feijóo is one of the most relevant figures of the contemporary folk scene in Galicia. Singer, award-winning dancer, choreographer, TV showman, ETRAD teacher, and coordinator of the vocals section of the OFG SonDeSeu. After having done incessant work of ethnographic research for more than thirty years and having collaborated on more than twenty albums and shows by internationally renowned artists such as Mercedes Peón, Xosé Manuel Budiño, Carlos Nuñez, Kepa Junquera, Berrogüetto and Rodrígo Romaní, among others, he has launched his solo career with the presentation of the album titled “Peixe”.

MØURA Y Xisco Feijóo no se conocían personalmente y ha sido gracias a la iniciativa de la productora del programa “Ondas Novas” que se han reunido en Castelo Studio para explorar las posibilidades de este encuentro entre dos figuras relevantes de la música actual en Galicia. Tras varias horas de exploración e improvisación al calor de la chimenea, al final del día salieron dos temas que se fueron emitidos en la Televisión de Galicia el pasado mes de Julio.

MØURA and Xisco Feijóo didn´t know each other personally, but it was thanks to the producers of the TV program “Ondas Novas” that they got to this gathering in Castelo Studio to explore the possibilities of an encounter between two relevant figures of the music scene in Galicia. After several hours of research and improvisation in the warmth of the fireplace, at the end of the day, two songs came out. The whole experience was documented, and the footage was released in the last month of July on Galician Television.

In Residence: Brett Patterson

El pasado mes de abril de 2023 nos visitaba Brett Patterson, músico llegado desde Colorado (USA) al frente de la banda de synth pop The Brett.

Nacido en Durango, Colorado, Brett finalizó sus estudios de piano clásico en la Aaron Copland School of Music en la ciudad de New York. Con una plena inmersión en la tradición clásica y un gusto especial hacia un synth pop, su música ha evolucionado hacia un sonido de texturas psicodélicas que se encuentra en su camino el indie rock o un african disco. Con base en la ciudad de Berlín, donde vive desde hace unos años, se decidió por una residencia de un mes en Castelo Studio. Durante su estancia se centró en la preparación del lanzamiento de su primer álbum “Creatures”.

Last April 2023, Brett Patterson visited us. Brett is a musician from Colorado (USA) and he is the frontman of The Brett, a synth-pop band from The States.

Born in Durango, Colorado, Brett completed his classical piano studies at the Aaron Copland School of Music in New York City. With full immersion in the classical tradition and a special taste for synth-pop, his music has evolved towards a sound of psychedelic textures that is on its way to indie rock or African disco. Based in the city of Berlin, where he has lived for a few years, he decided on a month-long residency at Castelo Studio. During his stay, he focused on preparing for the release of his first album “Creatures”.

Coincidiendo con la salida de su primer álbum “Creatures” en todas las plataformas decidimos preparar una fiesta presentación de su proyecto el día 6 de Mayo de 2023 en Castelo Studio, pocos días antes de su partida hacia Berlín, cerrando así de una manera especial su residencia.

On May 6th, 2023, coinciding with the release of his first music album “Creatures” on all platforms, we prepared an album release party at Castelo Studio, just a few days before his departure to Berlin, thus closing his artistic residency with a special event.

In Residence: Bala

Anxela Baltar y Violeta Mosquera forman un tándem imbatible al frente de la banda de post punk Bala. El pasado mes de febrero de 2023 se encerraron en Castelo Studio durante una semana para trabajar en lo que serán los nuevos temas de su próximo álbum.

El témino “bala” se refiere a todo elemento proyectado, usualmente de metal. Y así son ellas, una banda de stoner rock/grunge que desde su formación en 2014 y con ya tres álbumes de estudio a sus espaldas, han salido proyectadas al panorama nacional e internacional con un directo ruidoso y contundente de espíritu muy 90´s. Han girado por casi todos los festivales y salas más importantes de España y se les ha podido escuchar en festivales internacionales en Holanda, Francia, Alemania, Inglaterra, Japón, Australia…

Durante su residencia en Castelo Studio, Anxela y Vio aka Bala, se centraron en la creación de los temas core de su próximo álbum que pronto verá la luz. De esta semana de convivencia y aislamiento salieron doce temas nuevos, y es que la capacidad de foco que ellas dos tienen cuando se ponen a crear juntas es asombrosa. Estamos deseando escuchar lo que están preparando para esta próxima primavera.

Anxela Baltar and Violeta Mosquera are the unbeatable tandem of frontwomen in the post-punk band Bala. Last February 2023, they locked themselves in Castelo Studio for a week to work on what was about to be the new songs for their upcoming album.

The term “bala” (bullet) refers to any projected element, usually made of metal. And that's what they are, a stoner rock/grunge band that, since its creation in 2014 and with three studio albums behind them, has been projected onto the national and international scene with a loud and powerful live show with a very 90's taste. They have toured all the most important festivals and venues in Spain and have been heard at international festivals in Holland, France, Germany, England, Japan, and Australia...

During their residency at Castelo Studio, Anxela and Vio aka Bala, focused on creating the core songs of their next album that will soon be released. Twelve new songs came out of this week of togetherness and isolation. The capacity they have to focus when they start creating together is inspiring. Can't wait to hear what they are preparing for this coming spring.
