Irma Joanne es la primera artista en residencia dentro del programa de residencias para artistas 2021 en Castelo Studio. Irma es una artista interdisciplinar con base en Rotterdam y formada en Bellas Artes, Escenografía y Terapias Holísticas. Se ha especializado en recrear anatomía humana por medio de técnicas escultóricas en yeso. Usa el material como medio a través del cual la piel puede expresarse y manifestarse mediante una conexión física. En estos procesos se genera un tipo de intimidad que se experimenta como un sacrificio y una experiencia muy gratificante al mismo tiempo. Sus rituales se perciben como procesos mentales y espirituales, como celebración y refugio en los que se evoca una consciencia del propio cuerpo en relación al otro.
A la búsqueda de un balance entre la práctica artística y la espiritual, durante su estancia en Castelo Studio, Irma trabaja su relación con el yeso como método con el que conectar con el propio cuerpo. Se propone llevar esta conexión a otro nivel, literalmente, explorando el impacto que el entorno natural del estudio tiene sobre su trabajo.
Irma Joanne has recently joined the 2021 art residency program in Castelo Studio. Irma is an interdisciplinary artist from Rotterdam with a background in Fine arts, Scenography, and Holistic therapy. Being specialized in making plaster body sculptures, she uses the material to communicate with the skin through a physical connection. This kind of intimacy is experienced as a sacrifice and a gratification. Irma creates rituals that feel mental and spiritual, yet playful and caring. By doing so, she evokes body awareness in both her own and the other body.
Finding herself balancing between both art and spiritual practices, she is in residence at Castelo Studio to research her relationship with plaster as a method to connect with the body. She is focused on bringing this connection to another level, literally, by exploring the impact that the natural environment in/around the Studio has on her work.

En una aproximación holística a su práctica, Irma recrea rituales performativos donde un íntimo grupo de participantes es parte de un ritual a través del cual se revelan lo límites del propio cuerpo físico mediante el abandono de uno mismo al proceso mismo del grupo.
In a holistic approach to her practice, Irma creates performative rituals where an intimate group of guests is involved in a ritual to be aware of the physical limits of their bodies while abandoning themselves in a group process.
