ALPINE CABIN CONSTRUCTION MANUAL (English version)
ALPINE CABIN CONSTRUCTION MANUAL (English version)
In 2017 we built our alpine cabin at Castelo Studio. Thanks to the wise advice and project development of Luís Vilariño, a carpenter and interior designer specialized in woodwork, we could carry out the project we had in mind. Created jointly with the vision of Iria do Castelo and the technical support of Luís Vilariño, this cabin has been hosting artists in residence every summer since 2017 until today, making their stay an unforgettable experience.
Since its creation, we have received multiple messages from people interested in having their own alpine cabin. However, it has not been until now that we have decided to share this construction manual.
This manual contains all the basic instructions so that you can build your cabin, or so that you can hire a timber specialist to build it with the manual in mind. This simple downloadable guide contains a detailed and precise list of the necessary tools and materials. It also contains 12 pages with the exact measurement plans with a scaling of each of the parts needed in each part of the assembly process. This way you can use the manual itself to order the cuts, materials, and tools you will need exactly. Accompanying the manual is a pack of photographs taken during construction with useful references to every detail of the assembly process.
Important note: Castelo Studio does not develop assembly projects or advice on the construction of the cabin, however, if there is any important question you need to solve we can put you in contact with our wood expert Luís Vilariño.
Give or treat yourself to the pleasure of building your own cabin. Here I share the words of Henry David Thoreau about his famous book ‘Walden’:
“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived."
